sony vaio - no wireless card seen

  onthelimit 14:10 07 May 2010

After problems, did a full reinstall of Vista 32 Home Premium. All OK, except no wireless. In Device Manager, there is only an ethernet controller under Network Device. Under Other Devices, there are 3 exclamation marks - an ethernet controller, a mass storage controller and an other device. None of them have drivers and they are all 'unknown'. It was OK before - any thoughts please?

The one's with the Yellow exclamation marks - right click and select "Update Driver Software"

No drivers found either from windoze or the net.

Put in your model number and then look at drivers for it.

Took a chance on th Atheros Wireless driver - turned out that's what the unknown 'ethernet controller' was. All working normally now - thanks rawprawn (again!).

Sorry - I forgot with all the excitement!

Been musing over the problems - if Windows can't recognise a device, and gives no details on it at all, is there any way of discovering it's identity?

SIW (Systems Information for Windows) should give you the details you require -

OR your manufacturers support web site.

Thanks, I'll keep SIW in mind for the next time.
