Press and hold down the shift key and right click on a link - a context menu should open that says "Open With" on it.

Click the Open With - then select Internet Explorer as the program

It's Internet Explorer that should open links - not Star Office (soffice), and what you are doing should change this back to what it should be. In case it doesn't work correctly, ask again.

star office?

i think we need more info like when exactly get this error what os/ version windows you have etc,
first thing i would try to do is restore back to a previous date (if you have xp or me) click start, all programs , (accessoriys ?) ,system tools , system restore, click restore back to a prevous date and chose the most recent embolded date. will restart and have another go.
