SMC Router with no installation disc

  dangerusone 18:07 14 Sep 2009

My son-in-law has given me a SMC router part No SMCWBR14S-N2 without the installation disc.
I have been to site to try and download the drivers for it,put in all the relevant details, part number/operating system etc clicked on next step and got the message *no suitable download*

I have just turned the router over and there is a sticker that gives the part number etc also a barcode and under that it says *Mac 0013f796fd9a.

Could this this router be just be specifically for a Mac PC.

I would have thought that it would need no drivers.

Are you trying to connect it via a USB connection or ethernet?

  bremner 18:45 14 Sep 2009

Having looked here click here it shows no USB and only a documentation CD.

I have never had to install drivers for any of the routers I have installed.

Google for SMCWBR14S-N2 54, 600 pages.

No, that's the Mac code of the router - nothing to do with Apple Macs. It is, in effect, the router's identity.

thanks for all your replies they are much appreciated.
I have connected the EZ Connect USB and powered up the Router and I get the message -

Wireless Network (Choose)

1 - SMC
2 - Home 1
3 - 02 Wireless EDCEE7
4 - Sky 50873
4 - Belkin 2948C5

I'm afraid I haven't a clue what all this about as I have never had any dealings with routers before.
Is No1 SMC my router and the others neighbours?

  bremner 09:20 15 Sep 2009

Yes it is.

Before you start you need to connect the router to a PC by a wire.

Then set it up by typing into your browser.

have a look at this click here

It tells you how to set up an SMC router for wireless use.

Sorry for the delay,I had to wait until my son-in-law brought his laptop round which we tried to match up to the SMC Router.
I thought we were almost were there when the laptop died on us,end of session.we shall try again next week when he comes again hopefully with a full battery.
I will report on the outcome.

Sorry it's been so long since I first aired my problem.
I haven't been able to solve the problem as Son-in -Law always seems to forget the laptop when he visits.
So I will tick resolved to end this thread.

I'm one grumpy old duffer!
