Slow log out

For no apparent reason vista user log out now takes nearly two minutes but last week it was about twenty seconds. System restore didn't help. Any ideas?

Open Regedit (WINDOWS KEY + R on your keyboard, or by clicking Start/Run) and type "regedit" without quotes.

Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control] On the right panel look for the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" string and change it value to 1000 by right clicking the string and selecting Modify...

Default Value WaitToKillServiceTimeout=20000

Modified value WaitToKillServiceTimeout=1000

It might be worth having a look in "event viewer" looking in "Windows", "System logs" and look back at shutdown events and times.
Don't really know if that would show anything or not but it's free to look :)

Have you installed any software/drivers recently ?

Thanks for all the help. I had updated the Creative SB X-Fi driver. I rolled back to the previous and log off is normal. I have no idea why that should happen or if it is a problem for everyone.

Pleased you found the cause.
Unless you have a specific issue you are trying to fix I wouldn't advise updating drivers as a general rule.
