I have followed Skidzy's advice and downloaded the following programs:
Antivir
ZoneAlarm Firewall
Spywareblaster
Winpatrol
CCleaner
Hijackthis

I also followed Brundle's advice with Secunia
and its found 2 end-of-life programs:
Apple Quicktime 6.x and Shockwave Player 8.x

I have updated QuickTime, start-my computer-HDD-program files-quickTime-QuickTimeUpdater but secunia still shows it as an end-of-life.

I cant find the Shockwave player to uninstall or to update but would rather to that than use Secunia's download link.

I also have 10 unsecured programs needing patches

I have recently done a clean install on my laptop using Smart Restore and saved all my files on to several flash drives.

I am using XP SP3

Do you have any suggestions?

Just a quickie... You have installed HJT,only use the program with guidance. Its a powerful program and if used incorrectly can render your computer unbootable. Most of the HJT scan results are in fact needed....use with caution !!

You really should add an antispyware program or two ,such as Superantispyware and Malwarebytes

Superantispyware free click here

Malwarebytes free click here

I only downloaded HJT out of interest, performed 1 scan, logged 1 result, found a specialised forum where people posted there results, i found that my result was relatively small compared to others.

so i dont think i have any problems (fingers crossed) bearing in mind my machine is back to its factory state apart from your download advice i took on board as i stated earlier.

Every personal file i have is saved on flash drives.

BUT YOUR HJT ADVICE HAS BEEN SURELY NOTED!!

Thanks & God bless
