shutting down Windows XP

Hi;my problem is I cannot turn off my computer. When I click on 'Turn off computer' nothing happens-it stays on. Thanks for your help, Rob.

does it shut down most of the way and just fail to power off??

if so it may be that a piece of hardware (e.g. an isdn modem) that is "holding it up...try setting the "plug & play operating system" in the bios to "no"

try holding the power on/off button in for 5-10 seconds it should switch pc off. re- boot computer. check to see if you have all the latest windows xp updates. it could also be a programme not responing so hold alt+cttl+del to see task manager and find ot wot prog is not responding, end task then try shutting down.
