Shutdown delay

When I shut down Windows XP the shutdown message comes up plus the music within seconds but the computer can take up to 10 minutes to turn off. Anyone know why as it is a fairly recent problem/

Probably your antivirus scanning causing the delay, more info on what you have running would help

Have looked through the subjects suggested by Stallion and thinking about it it does coincide with Service pack2 installation. When I shut down I have normally closed all programs other than MSN Messenger. I only use the Firewall than comes with XP but that was in the service pack2 also.

In response to Jonny Tub, I use AVG antivirus but I do not run it at shutdown
