shortcut arrow removing software for xp?

  Jwbjnwolf 15:18 05 Dec 2010

I have just spent an hour or so creating a personlised wallpaper using paint.(wish could show you a picture but that would mean giving eachother email add)
And i have been busy sorting out desktops icon on which i use the most and i want to know what is the best apps to remove the shortcut icons, remove the text so only the icons show so that i have a nice, sleek desktop design.
I can remember someone explaining how to do this in the offical vista magazine but they were as for vista which you can most likely do with windows 7 but i mean as for xp home sp3.
Any recommendations?

This should work for XP click here.

See click here for Vista & Win7. G

To remove the shortcut arrow you can use Tweak UI from click here. The setting is under Explorer > Shortcut. G

To remove the text, im sure im doing it wrong.

Are you 'holding down the Alt key and typing 255 then releasing the Alt key'?

Works for me - do it by pressing the keys on the number pad. And don't release Alt until you have typed the numbers. G

and is it raining number pads?

Meaning i don't have one

When i hold down alt and type 255, nothing happens meaning the highlighted text stays there and when release alt after typed 255 hit enter the origanal text is still there.

See if your laptop (which you haven't mentioned) has the feature to make the standard number keys behave like a numpad click here.

Then try the Alt+255 again. G

No sorry, that isn't going to work either as you need to press the Alt key there too! G

Are you right clicking the icon and choosing "Rename" before you do alt + 255 etc ?? ...alB
