SFC /SCANNOW command & Service Pack 2

Hi. I am just curious as to what would happen if I ever NEED to use the Windows File Protection (SFC /SCANNOW) feature after installing SP2?
If I am right, when you install SP2 it replaces some of the original XP operating system files with newer versions (from either the SP2 download or the SP2 CD itself) for enhanced security?

If I did ever NEED to use Windows File Protection and the SFC /SCANNOW command with SP2 installed, what would stop it replacing the updated SP2 files with the original versions that were on the XP Home Edition CD?

Am I just worrying about nothing or has MicroSoft built-in some sort of file checker to make sure that the newest version of operating system files are ALWAYS retained?
Just curious.
