Setting up Peer-to-Peer connections?

I am trying to connect two Pcs running WinME. Now, in My Network Places/ Entire Network/ Mshome I can only see the one pc - the one I am looking at.
Seeing as this might be a long question I thought it better to take it step by step so here is the first step-

Both NICs are reported to be working OK in Device manager and are connected with a new crossover cable.
Is this the correct cable to use?

If this is confirmed I will post details of the setup for further confirmation.

yes so far so good. now u gotta set up the IP ranges. have u done that yet? network properties for the connectio will have it. i would ssuggest u dont use automatic settings and force 192.168.0.2 and up... subnet mask to default

Not sure how to do that.

What I have done is use the Network setup wizard to assign names passwords etc to both pcs. Then in Control panel/ Network I set u the client, protocol and services options and restarted when prompted.
