Setting up a network

I run Vista Home Premium and am setting up a network based on my computer. I have managed to add my laptop to this but am having trouble with my wife's computer. The Wireless Network Connection tells me that the speed is 54.0 mbps and signal strength is "Excellent" and confirms that the network I have set up is available but says that "Status is limited or no connectivity. It tells me that "This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. When I tried to use the "Repair" facility, a message says "Windows cold not finish repairing because the following action cannot be completed - "Renewing your IP address".
Can anybody help, please?
