services.msc error

When I attempt to execute services.msc in the run dialog box, I receive an error stating the snap in was not found. I tried to add the snap in without success. Would someone explain how I can execute this without reinstalling XP Pro?

Instead of reinstalling, you should be able to repair/update the OS.

thank you for your suggestion. How would I go about the repair/update? Using the original CD and following instructions?
