Serious Fault Message

  logrin 15:12 24 Oct 2006

I have had the above message on my screen each time I started up the compter. when I sent the details as requested to M/S they advised me to take it to a computer specialist and have it analysed.
However I have used System recovery and took it back to a month previous and the message no longer occurs. Is it worth having it checked over? The computer (Advent} is over three years old and I am tempted to get a newer one rather than spend money on this one.. Logrin

Hi, if it now working ok I would leave well enough alone - but I would also go along with your last suggestion to get a more up-to-date

When I get a new laptop, which operating system would you recommend.
HP offers XP home, media or professional, I use it at home for e-mails, looking up articles, my phots etc. logrin

You may think it would be worth waiting until the new year when you should be able to get a Vista OS machine. The FE has spoken highly elsewhere of it and the stability of the system.

There are some incentives to buy now and have free or cheap upgrades from XP to Vista later but it would require an install. click here

I only use XP Home, so I cannot comment on the others - but I am happy with what I have.

I did not answer your question fully. For your needs then XP Home will work perfectly, the media centre one is OK (I have it) but its more bells and whistles rather than usefulness in my view.

The Vista system will (depending on the variant) have much of the media aspects built in. Have a look click here
