Self build Media Centre

Hi I would like to try my hand at building a media PC running Windows Media Centre. I don't need the system to be particularly powerful. All it has to to is play music and movies and the occasional web browsing or office apps. I would also like it to be as near silent as possible. I was thinking about basing the system around one of the VIA mini ITX motherboards. I plan to include a TV tuner card which can record digital freeview channels or maybe even sky digital if there is a card that cam do this? I have heard of people having problems with component compatibility using MCE. Can anyone recommend components that will work or tell me of any good or bad experiences they have had while building their own system.
