Second Hard Drive not found

  Woodmouse 08:50 28 Apr 2004

Windows XP Home. Installed a second hard drive and checked cables and jumper settings. On boot up, pressed DEL key to bring up the BIOS. Ensured that the slave drive was on AUTO DETECT, then saved and exit. When the computer re-booted, the first DOS screen displays the make of the second hard drive OK, but then I noticed two lines which seem to display . . . Unable to boot from ATAPI - Failed. When Windows finally appears, there is no trace of the second hard drive. What is happening please? What can I check? Is my new hard drive faulty?

Right click on my computer

choose manage

then disk management

see if the disk is there; it should be visible but needs paftitioning /formatting.

you need to fdisk/partition the drive before windows will see it.
