second hard disk probs

just added second hard disk to new phillips machine. shows up in device manager but not in my computer. operating sys is xp hd is maxtor any suggestions. cant find drive to format???

Right Click My Computer > Manage > Disk management.

You will see your new drive in the bottom pane as unallocated.

Right click on the small portion on the left hand end and choose initialise.

Then right click on the large section on the right and choose Add Partition.

Follow through the prompts and this will also allow you to format the drive.

wont let me initialise but assume drive has to be formatted first

jumpers have been removed to set as slave.when right clicking on the right hand end only getting these options
new partition
properties
help
wont allow to initialise

Right click on left hand side for initialise.

the same result as before at either end. ther seems not to be a small portion at the left hand side, appears to be the same all the way across

is there a possibility that the disk is already initialised???

The bit on the left will be titled Disk0 or Disk1 and it will say not initialised.

Are you looking in the bottom pane of the Window?

the disk is titled disk1,basic,152.66 GB, online. the disk above is tiled disk0 and is also basic and online. there are removable disks and cd advd drives listed below this . the new disk does not appear in the window above as an operational drive. ivtried everything tyo get to the initialise stage but cant
