scanner driver, word 2013 & john bunyan

As mentioned in another thread I won't post to for fear of muddying it, I've got an old HP Scanjet 3500c that works perfectly well on XP but not W10. I referenced VueScan without realising that it was trial then pay, but then found DriverScape which seems to have done the job. It doesn't have all the whistles and bells of the original HP installation, but it works, outputting bmp, jpg, png and tif format. And for jb, there's drivers there for your scanners as well.

Only problem is Microsoft removed the facility to scan direct into Word documents from 2013 on, so the scanned files end up in pictures and have to be input from there.

Anybody found a way of getting a Scan button into Insert?

Just for reference I have used VirtualBox, on Windows 10, to install WXP just to test some older hardware. It worked quite well especially when I set a shared folder that could be seen by both XP and W10. I didn't connect the XP installation to the internet but used the shared folder to get drivers that I had downloaded.
