Recently received an e-mail asking for financial details and was obviously a scam.It was deleted pronto.However,I did wonder if I had entered false information whether this would have enabled the spammer to be caught more easily.Just a thought.

Nope. Spam is faked, and replying to it only shows the spammer you exist and that you haven't abandoned the account. The best thing to do is to either forward the email to some anti-spam group or just delete them and hope they go away.
