Saving programs to external hard drives

Is it possible to run programs from other drives than the "c" hard drive?
I would like to run SonicStage from an external hard drive. If I did manage to save the program onto the external hd would I be able to run it from there. Any advise would be welcome

In theory this should be possible, but as install routines place the exact program path in the registry, if the drive letter ever changed, which can happen, the program would no longer run.

It's much better to install the software on the C: drive, but have the program place it's data folder on the removable drive.

I'll give it a try
