outlook express has stopped saving copies of e mails sent.
i've checked the tick in options, even turned pc back a month in restore.
all was fine till a few days ago.
any ides, thanks
whilst deleting account, i noticed the pc time and date was a tad astray, mail was saved but in the wrong place, suspect time to change bios battery.

Did you have loads of emails in 'sent' folder and now they have gone?
is the 'sent' folder completely empty?
or is it just new ones are not saved and the others are still there?

That can happen if the Sent Items folder is damaged. Move all messages you might want to keep out of the Sent Items folder and into another mail folder you create. Close OE, then delete the file Sent Items.dbx in your Identity's store folder. OE will create a new one when you re-open OE.
In order to avoid this problem, it is best to move messages out of Sent Items and into another folder you create whenever the number of messages is over 1,000 or so. Note that a very large Sent Items folder can also make OE sluggish whenever you send mail. "
It is not good practice to allow the default folders to get too many emails in them as these folders are prone to corruption if too full. Default folders are ..Inbox ..Outbox ..Sent Items ..Deleted Items ..Drafts
If they do become corrupted then you should delete them and they will be re-created on next opening of OE
You should make some more sub folders of your own and drag the emails from the Inbox and Sent Items to your own sub folders in path:
keep all your emails in folders ..Tom ..Dick ..Harry
Also you must allow OE to compact the messages, which it will announce it is going to do about every 100 times that you open OE. It is supposed to do this - by design, don't do anything else on computer until it has finished this chore.
