what are the main advantaged of using SATA interface DVD Wtr over IDE ? the machine will only have a DVD Wtr and not a standalone DVD x16 player. It may also be required to run games from the DVD Wtr with it being sata would this be also advantageuos ?

No real performance hit, and I would keep my SATA connections for HDD's I do have an old original Plextor SATA DVDRW, but it's no faster than an IDE.

I use my IDE connections for optical drives, keeping my SATA connections for hard drives.

Speed wise - None

Cables are smaller therefore less to block airflow in case.

Will stay with IDE, Could understand one advantage of using sata, thinner cable in the case Ha!. I must say though these SATA Cables are not as flexible compaired to IDE ribbons, how much of a bending can they take and the ends also weak. But that advances of getting smaller things in life. No Jokes please.
