Sata DVD RW Seen as CD-ROM in My Computer

  RobCharles1981 19:21 08 Oct 2008

I have this drive

Which is causing a small problem.

For some or known reason its not showing as "DVD-RW" in my Computer instead its shown as "CD-ROM"

Looking in Device Manager it says the device name as a CD-ROM Device.

Any Ideas on this please??

Can happen if you have drives set as cable select rather than master and slave on the jumpers.

hmmm everything I know looks ok inside

I have 1 IDE (DVD-ROM)

and 4 Sata Hard Drives

I did a bit of browsing on Google and this is a common problem.

This happens when the "IMAPI CD Burning COM service" is disabled. Go to
start > Run and enter: services.msc

Scroll down to "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" and make sure that service is
running. If it's not, double click on that service and then click 'Start'.
Make sure the Startup Type is set to 'Automatic'.

This I did and upon reboot the service stops??

Does it read and write to DVD's? Mine show as CD-ROM and work fine with DVD's (all mine are SATA drives).
