router printer question

  richierich 17:09 22 Sep 2004

I have a 4 port adsl wirless router connected to broadband with desktop pc connected via lan lead to router and a laptop with wireless adapter which also connects.
Connected to the desktop via USB is a printer which i can send stuff to from the laptop to print.

Is it possible for me to connect the printer to to the router so I can print from the laptop without having to have the desktop on. There is a USB connection on the router but it is the square one not the flat one, ie same fitting as the one going into the printer. Is it just a case of buying the right lead or am i missing something

but the router must have Print Server feature.

Otherwise, you need a USB printer server via RJ45 LAN, to connect your USB printer up as a node, and use IP printing system.

The USB print server will have instructions on printing via IP.

as far as i can tell there is no printer server feature on my router, if it means buying more hardware i probably wont bother at the moment, but thanks for info.
