Have you only just upgraded to XP from 98?

daisy2bell. I realise your having problems with XP from this thread. click here But XP really is a better O/S to work with if set up correctly.

Do you want to try setting up XP again or go back to 98se? If the latter, then I think your XP will have been loaded in NTFS format, if so you will need to download and save to a floppy a "Bootdisk".

Once you have this on a floppy you can insert it in your "a" drive and format your C: drive. Now remove the floppy, go into the BIOS and set your CD drive as "First boot drive". Re-boot your PC.

Insert your 98se disk and it will auto-run to install Windows for you, just follow the on-screen instructions.

Don't forget to backup all your files to a separate drive or CD before formating your drive though. j.

I think I may have found the culprit which is causing the crashes. Yesterday I suddenly got a blue screen with loads of writing and a "error report" I sent this to microsoft and it stated that a driver was causing the problems.
I think what I need to do now is one by one dis-able programmes and see which one is causing the conflict. BUT how do I do this on XP

Assuming you can still run Windows, open up your Control Panel, double click on Administrative Tools then double click on Event Viewer.

If you click once on each of the three items in the left hand panel a whole load of entries for the itme you click on will display in the right hand panel.

Look for anything flagged with round red circle with a red cross in it which indicates an Error or antything with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it which indicates a Warning.

If you see any of these Error or Warning indicators, double click on each of them and a small panel pops up telling what the error was, when it happened and there is normally a link at the bottom of the panel where you can go to a page on the Microsoft site for further information.

If it is all so much gobbledygook then you can copy the messages into this forum and one of us will look at them for you.

This should indicate what went wrong and hopefully allow one of use to point you in the right direction to fix things.

Regards

Taran

You can copy the text in the error message either by clicking on it to highlight then right click and select copy or there are three buttons on the panel, an up arrow, a down arrow and just below that a copy button. Press that button and it copies the error message to your clipboard.

Open up this forum and right click into the message box and select Paste.
