Restoreing to factory settings without recovery cds, an Acer Aspire 7722

  hunts 12:04 27 Dec 2013

On attempting to restore I am asked for a password with hint "phone". Does anyone know which phone they mean or do they mean I have to phone Acer? If not does anyone know the password?

Many thanks

Is it a new machine or a secondhand one? The password hint might be left over from a previous user/owner.

Ian, I bought the laptop new from laptopdirect.

I found this: try the factory default p/w: 000000 (six zero's) click here

The password is stored in a file on the hidden partition. The best way to get at this is to use something like "The Ultimate Boot CD" that will run a complete system from a cd. Once it is booted, you can navigate to the file %drive letter%\TOOLS\AIMDRS.DAT use any text editor or notepad to view this file and find the password

Could it be you need to phone laptopsdirect? Just a thought...

Thanks all tried Laptopsdirect but all they came back with was the warrenty has now run out???? Silly me I had used a telephone number from a house which I had not lived in for a long time. Microsoft also said you cannot put a password on but hey I did.
