Resource Conflicts - Memory Assignment

  villageidiot 09:56 24 Feb 2007

I have built a new PC, using a SATA HDD in a caddy, on Win XP, and therefore on the NTFS file system. This works well.

However one of my programs requires a particular HDD Volume Serial Number (VSN) to operate, and I have not yet found a program to change VSNs on the NTFS file system. I cannot get the program to work on another VSN because the software provider no longer supports this program. Therefore I also want to carry on using my old IDE ATA HDD, on Win98SE. This too is in a caddy.

If I remove the SATA HDD, and fit the ATA caddy, I cannot change the display from the basic 640 x 480 x 16 colour. Looking in Device Manager there is a problem with the “System Board extension for ACPI BIOS”. Under the “Resources” tab there is a conflict over the memory assigned to this and to “Motherboard Resources”. However if I try to follow the instructions to modify either of these, I get a window telling me that they cannot be modified.

How can I get over this?
