Repaired xp now internet won't work properly

Hi all!
I wonder if you sages could help this old chap?
I've been having a bit of trouble with my PC of late and yesterday, I obviously deleted something i shouldn't of done and when restarting the computer froze and i couldn't do anything about it!
Anyway, In my old, but dumb, wisdom, decided to repair XP on my fujitsu computer using the disk supplied with it.
Well, the computer is working ok, but obviously needs to update itself.
But, i can get it to connect to the internet but it jumps out within a second or two!

I am using a Belkinwireless G usb network adaptor as usual.and it is working as it should, but the computer seems to be rejecting connection.

Is there any advise you sages could give me?

System restore to a time before you "obviously deleted something"?

And then run sfc /scannow and have the Windows disc handy.

But when the system initualy froze, i couldn't do a system restore and now i have repaired the XP, system sestore only goes back to a few hours ago!

If you've repaired XP it might be wise to also un-install and re-install the software for the Belkin.

Done that Clapton.
I went on the belkin site with this old laptop i am using now and downloaded a new driver and installed it, after deleting the old one of coarse!

Have you inserted the security key for your router into the wireless settings?

  Black Strider 20:29 09 Dec 2009

Yep, done that too!
The belkin is working and does connect with exellent strength, then seconds later disconnects with no connection. It will do this all the time, connecting and disconnecting!
I'm about to do a complete re-installation to see what happens!

Gave up and took computer to the local repeir man!
