removing from startup in msconfig

After removing a prog (avg) from startup then restarting do you choose selected startup when asked. I chose normal and the damn thing was back again

Remove the program from the Startup tab and then Apply and OK and close.

You can then reboot immediately or later.

An alternative to msconfig is to use 'Startup Inspector' free from click here

Ah but after you reboot you have to choose from a box how you want to start up Selected startup is already Checked but I am unsure of whether I should allow that

Yes you select 'selected startup' plus tick the box not to remind you at each start up. This way only the items you want loading will load each time.
