reinstall xp - ntldr is missing

Acer laptop. Dead HDD. Formatted a new one on my PC to NTFS. Try to install XP - get the 'NTLDR missing - press ctrl, alt, dlt'. Any thoughts, please?

But I seem to have done everything suggested there.

If i have read it right you have formatted in one PC put back into Lappy then tried to install XP.

Are you sure the HDD in the lappy was dead, if you have done the above and it recognises the HDD in your PC but not the Lappy, loose or damaged cables will give you this error...
