i used regscrub xp for a while it's good but i had to do about 5 repairs after running it, someone told me it hasnt been updated for a few years,
this came highly recommended, its not free but does a first class job and doesnt remove any important bits! click here

try advanced Windows care from, Iobit. there is a free and a paid for version

Yesterday I downloaded four of the "paid for" registry progs. The ones that will give you a free scan but only fix 15 or so items and you have to buy the prog to fix the rest. I ran all four. Fixed nothing each time and came up with four wildly different sets of results. I am sure that many of these progs come up with a load of false positives just to persuade you to by the full version.
I have also tried RegScrubXP with near disasterous results and had to do a reg backup restore to get thing working again.
I will stick with Reg Mechanic and CCleaner thank you!

Freudian slip!!!
"by the full version"
should read
"Buy the full version"
but maybe should have been
"Bye the full version"
