Red Screen on boot

I'm using a Compaq evo n1000v laptop with windows xp pro installed. Problem is on boot the display is red and icons are blured. After about 15 minutes it corrects itself and everything is ok, but it seems to correct itself after it heats up a bit.All drivers are correct. Could it be my graphics card is going or is it a Ram problem or something else. Any advice welcome.
Thanks in advance

Can you connect an external monitor?

If the external monitor boots up without going red then its the laptop screen.....if it does go red then it looks like vga card.
