Recording voice to PC

What type of mic do I need to record to my PC via Audacty. I have tried an old stereo mic from my old tape recorder but it does not give a big enough input to Audacity.

Have you checked the main windows input level settings audacity can only work from those levels .As for mics consider a usb mic

Thank both of you. I have got volume fully up. I should have said I want to record singing as well as speech

Your old stereo mic will not work properly on any PC. You need a dedicated PC mic as shown in my link above.

For singing you are best with a Condenser type not cheap but have look on Amazon I use the samson CO1U usb there is also the Behringer bit cheaper By the way good Mics are seldom Stereo.You can get cheaper at the likes of Maplins I had one of there £20+ ones not much cop avoid Computor mics link text
