Recording using computer to watch via tabletop DVD

  niqldoo 15:23 05 Apr 2006

Having recorded a program on my computer using the recording facility in Windows Media Center, I now want to burn the program onto a DVD in a format that will be compatible with my table top DVD player. I've tried using Digital Media Converter, but the quality of the final recording is terrible (picture quality and voice sync).
Can anyone suggest tried and tested alternative recording software (to replace Windows Media Center) which can record in different formats than WMC (I think the file extension is DVR-MS)?
Alternatively, can someone provide a "Dummy's Guide" on how to carry out the above operation and obtain watchable recordings?

Many thanks for all the links. I'll give each one a go until I find the easiest and best.

Don't forget to finalise the recordings or they won't play on a TV DVD player.
