recording the screen

What I would like is a piece of software that would record what I am doing on the screen as an mpg or an avi. I want to be able to produce some demo's that would help people understand how to use some of the software that we use in our department, as it is specialised software required to run scientific equipment.

So does anyone know of any software either free or purchased that would enable me to do this?

Yes, I use "Flash Cam", it saves as Flash SWF files. There are a few others that I've tried, but so far I like that one the best.

I forgot, they're calling it RoboDemo, now, gavbloke. Asmall example of what it can do can be seen if you click here. You can find out more about it if you click here

click here for Camstudio " You can use CamStudio to develop videos to demonstrate features of a new software, for creating movies used in user training, for tracking the progress of a program that executes for a long time, or for recording the sequence of steps that cause the occurrence of bugs in faulty software. " direct quote from the developers site. A piece of freeware that seems to fit the bill.
