Recording LP's to Laptop

I have just been reading in Computer Active about recording LP's to CD. On my laptop I do not have a 'line-in' so could I use my headphone socket instead?

I don't think so. Headphone socket is equivalent to "line out".

You can use the microphone socket if your laptop has one (if it's got a headphone socket it should have a mic input!)but you may have to fiddle with the volume control to get the correct sound level.
