Recomend a new pc. / supplier

My old pc is about 7 years old now and I have upgraded about as much as I can. So now I am thinking about replacing it. It is an old mesh matrix 1800 circa 2001.
AMD Athlon 2400+ cpu,
1.5gb of ram, (ddr1)
128mb graphics card,
1 x 80 , + 1 x 60gb drives
XP Home edition.

I have looked at a few different ones (zoostorm, scan, mesh etc)and it would be really easy to get carried away and spend a lot of money. Scan pc's great white! for example.
I was thinking I dont need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or soundcard, so it would just be the pc tower.
I like the idea of a core 2 duo processor (2.66), and maybe a Nvidia 260 graphics card and a lot of ram 4gb maybe?
Mostly it is used for home office working (vpn) internet browsing etc etc but when I try to use the present set up for games it just cant cope at any decent sttings.
Could I get something like that for around £1000 ish?

I personally recommend Novatech, both for computers and bits and pieces.

If you ring them after looking at the sort of thing they stock, they are very helpful
