receiving a call while on my computer.

I was on my laptop and all of sudden my laptop somewhat froze and a number flashed across the screen saying call this number its a "SECURITY WARNING" The number was 1-844-878-4902. I called the number because the computer would do anything. So I called the number and a gentlemen stated that he was from technical support and he wants to help me with my problem, however that didnt make sense to me so the first thing I mentioned was is this going to cost me MONEY and they mentioned YES. So I stated that Im not going to pay however I will take my computer back to the store. The next thing to happen after I told the Tech person that I was taking it back to the store was that my computer cleared up. Now question is how did that happpen? and is something I should do to prevent that problem in the future.

Obviously a scam - ignore. Meantime make sure that you have good up-to-date anti malware such as Malwarebytes Pro to protect against such scams.

Make sure your protection is up to date and scan for virus and malware.

As Nontek has said it is a scam. You may be interested in this article from Malwarebytes explaining how it happens and what you could do if it happens again.
