Re-instal Win 98

  [email protected]@m 19:41 18 Nov 2003

I'm trying to instal Windows 98 on a clean hard drive. The boot disk has created a primary dos partition, FAT 32 system, and I have a D drive which should be the CD-ROM.

But when I type command 'setup' in drive D, I get 'Bad command or file name', and can get no further. Any other commands to try, please?

What happens if you type Dir on drive D -

do you get a directory listing?

is there a setup.exe in the listing?

Try E: I think that 98 moves your drive letters along by one when you boot from the "a" drive. j.

Can you read/see the CD-Rom in D?
At the D: prompt type 'dir/w' to open the cd and read the directories on the disk. Does this show Setup.exe ?/

Thanks, tried all the letters down to N! D is the only valid one.

beeuuem, D has 15 files, Attrib.exe, Chkdsk.exe, etc. It says D is MS-RAMDRIVE. Looks like The CD-ROM has not been installed, it should be E, but that's invalid. I'll start again!

Diesse, sorry, missed you out! :-)

Let us know how you get on - does your boot disk have/load the CD rom drivers?

Your bootdisk might not have the CD-ROM drivers, try the bootdisk from here. click here Use the Windows 98 OEM download
And as Djohn says, it should be E:\setup

Right, it's found errors on C! I'm calling it a day!

Using, thanks. I've got CD-ROM on drive E now, but as above, problem with C now.

Is it an old drive, [email protected]@m?
