Re-Formatting the hard drive

  smially 16:45 30 Oct 2003

My Machine has become very unstable having been used by several different people, who have added hundreds of programmes and tweeks.
What I would like to do is make a clean start and reload just those programmes I need.
I use win 2000 me.
Any Advice would be appreciated.

Before you do anything, take a backup of the data you want to keep (to another disk/CD's/floppies etc.). You will then need to decide whether you can be bothered to deinstall all the unnecessary program (in add/delete programs) or re-format.

Boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system partition as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

"I use win 2000 me"

There is no such thing - can you specify whether it's Win2000 or WinME please, in order to avoid wrong advice.
