Run "chkdsk /f" (without the quote marks,)instead of just chkdsk.

There's a space between chkdsk and / don't forget that space.

I followed that advice , which then came with the answer that the volume was in use so would i like to run the fix when the system was restarted, so i said yes .

Now when i run chkdsk i get this click here

Double click my computer, right click your drive, select properites, tools, error checking

Now tick both boxes and wait till box pops up

Now restart computer and let chkdsk run properly rather than within windows

I followed your advice and what i got on screen was line after line of THE DISK DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO REPLACE BAD CLUSTERS DETECTED IN FILE,there is about three more words it says but it's going that fast i can't read it.

Looked like it would keep doing this so i turned the
machine off.

Should i have left it running?

Even though it says i don't have enough space surely 15gig IS enough?

Right-click the drive you want to check, whilst IN windows, then choose Properties, then click the top Tools tab, then the Check Now button, then tick the two boxes and restart your PC.It will perform the checks and fix any errors before it boots back into XP.

This would indicate your still not typing the correct syntax,or you should run a repair of XP.
