ram upgrade causing issues

Dell Dimension 5000 series with 4 RAM bays but only 2 being used with 512mb in each.

Ran the crucial support tool, ordered additional 2 x 1 Gb RAM modules and fitted them.
System boots ok, setup shows the 3 Gb RAM but in windows the keyboard and mouse wont work.

The hardware installer runs for both but I can't access any windows with a dead mouse/keyboard.

I've tried going back to as was (2 x 512) and still have the same problem?

Help please?

I've borrowed a mouse and keyboard from the other pc and now that pc is troublesome too. When the install hardware box appears everything freezes? No keyboard or mouse strokes ?

Are the keyboard and mouse connected to USB or PS2 ports? If they are USB can you get into the BIOS to check if Legacy USB Option is enabled. This is usually found under the Integrated Peripherals section of the BIOS.

Thanks I'll check tomorrow, (so hacked off I had to leave it)

mate suggested the HDD's may be infected (which they were recently) again to the extent they wont let me back in after changes? I dont understand why the second machine is like this though, only borrowed the mouse and returned it?
(Windows ggrrrrrrrrr)
