Ram stick only registering as 112

Hi Just aquired a pc but the ram is only registering as 112 when it is a 128 ram stick. Have tried putting another ram stick in but it is still registering as 112. I was wondering if the pci slot is damaged or whether anyone has any other ideas.

Could be that you have onboard video and sound. Often these onboard devices will take memory from RAM in order to work.

If you don't have onboard devices it could be a faulty memory stick. If you have a spare slot you could try to move the stick. Failing that ebay for another.

16Mg of your RAM will be used by the "on-board" Graphics.

To get the ram back buy a graffix card and install that,turn off onboard chip in bios and you should get the full 128,but i would get more ram as well 128 really isnt gonna help the pc a great deal.

Brilliant!! Thankyou everyone for the response, Have several 128 rams sticks so will put 2 in to make 256. Did wonder about the missin6 16 as everest was stating that it was there but missing on system info, willnowput in graphics card. Thankyou everyone.

Visit the Crucial Website to find out the cost of extra RAM. Extra RAM could speed things up considerably.

Adding a new Graphics Card is unlikely to make much difference if you are only running basic Office "type" applications.
