If i put ram from an old laptop into a newer laptop can i do any damage? what will happen if it isn't compatable and how would i know?
my old laptop was an IFRIEND and my new one is a Toshiba satellite but i need more memory and it seems shame to throw away the parts of the old one if they can be re-used.
Thanks
E.

No, you cant...Download and run the crucial memory tool from:

You must do this on both machines, it's free and will tell you exactly which type of memory you need.

can't run on both machines as the old one don't work at all now.

Pretty unlikely that the memory in the old one would work anyway.

If the old ram and the new ram are the same type and speed, you can. But I doubt they are. If they are different they will probably not fit into the machine.

Post back with the make and model numbers of both laptops.

Quiller, the IFRIEND IS NC122i4 Memory is 256. kingstonKVR133X64SC3/256 3.3V

My newer one is Toshiba Satellite A100-200 and is 512 memory. Not opened it up to to view memory though.

Sometimes yes it will fit, If it fits the Slot then I cannot see why it should not run. But you do need a spare slot or one that as smaller memory than the one you want to fit

happy to try it if i know i cannot do any damage to the Toshiba newer one. Can i?

When you remove the Memory from the Computer that you want to upgrade, Check it as to size and any notches that they are the same

Okay but can i do any damage by trying this?

If the part number is correct KVR133X64SC3/256, then that's PC133 RAM.

Looks like your Toshiba has DDR2 RAM click here.

Both are completely different & it will not fit, let alone work.

Yes, I think you could do damage, IF you somehow managed to fit the wrong RAM & power on the laptop.

If you need an upgrade & there's one slot free, I'd suggest one of these:
- 512Mb click here or
- 1Gb click here or click here. G
