quickbooks cannot find IE - although installed

I have been having a lot of trouble recently with IE so much so that I have gone over to Mozilla - very good. I disabled IE as per the instructions I found in a previous problem in this forum. I use an accounts prog called 'Quickbooks' and when I went to use it - after disabling IE - it would not load as it apparently needs IE as a pre-requisite to start ! I then downloaded a new IE installation from the MS website, but QB still cannot find it. Any ideas ?
Incidentally, whilst browsing to try and find an answer to this problem a came across this statement from MS 'Windows XP supports an "IEAccess=off" switch in the Unattend.txt file' Would this have anything to do with it ? I cannot find this file on the system. I use XP.
