a question about twitters tweets

NOTE TO FE you may want to move this as I am not really sure what section I should have posted it in.

The only social media I use is twitter to keep me informed on what certain music and sports people are doing , plus a few random things such as local radio stations.

Can anyone explain how different people/companies tweets that I do NOT follow keep appearing on may twitter pages. My twitter screen is beginning to look like an email programs spam box.

Last year I was blocked by some people because my name kept appearing above literally dozens of ads for dodgey sunglasses but one by one I got people to unblock me when I explained that I thought I knew why I was getting blocked.

Twitter like any other social site does advertising as well as target ads. When I log into my banking account I get ads for local banks, etc.

The more you use it and the longer you log in for, the more revenue. So your feed will be filled with posts similar to ones you've read in the hope you'll click.

When you follow someone all their posts appear in your timeline.

Follow for example 200 people who post twice a day and your feed will have:

400 Tweets to read through, plus ads and potential Tweets of a similar nature as well as recommended people.

What is Markdown?

Markdown lets you add more formatting to your post. Simply type in your post and it will display as written.

If you wish to add bold or italic characters, add a hyperlink to another website, a heading or a horizontal line, simply use the relevent icons above the text input field.

A preview of your post will appear in the grey box below. If you make a change and you're not happy, simply press the back arrow icon to undo.
