Question about OS disc

  [DELETED] 23:57 01 Jan 2006

Iwas given an old comp to mess about with first post click here It has windows 98se on it but no disc and there are loads of errors on it and no product key that i can find there is a reg number 26002-OEM-0082542-95427 which doesn't mean anything to me.I removed old HD and fitted a new one I also bought a new OS 98SE CD with floppy boot disk and product key but I find that it is for new builds only and so will not load. The question is if I bought a full version of 98se would I be able to load it or am I wasting my time

I put in the floppy and cd then it gives three options 1 toload with cd 2to load with cd support 3 toload without cd support I chose 1 and then the cd started and did a load of checks and then came to Windows set up and click continue but theres no mouse pointer so I press enter but nothing happens.I reboot comp and it says invalid system disk could this be because it says on the manual for new pc only.

Nope, should be ok, looks like your getting so far. Can the PC boot from CD Rom Drive, if so try that.

No when I try to boot from cd still comes up with invalid disk.On a further look at the cd it says on it Microsoft Windows 98 for PCs without Windows.

That just menas it's the full version, not an upgrade from an earlier version of Windows

If you're not getting a mouse pointer, then you might need to check how your mouse is connected, and also try another one.
