A computer I just built has gone haywire if I hook up the DVD Rom as secondary master and the CDRW as secondary slave I get a bios error telling me to set the secondary slave as master and not recognising the secondary master.
If I run either drive as secondary master they will work but when the two drives are connected they produce the error above.
have you tried putting one of the drives on primary slave (if using a second hdd, try that as secondary slave.)
Have you checked the jumper settings at the back of each drive ensuring that they are set correctly, one set to master, one set to slave?
Yes I have checked the jumper settings but I will try later on changing the CDRW to Primary slave
Have you tried accurately describing your topic?
Icannot describe it any other way but I think it is to do with a faulty bios.
how many HD`s and optical drives do you have?
if it was me i would keep my HD on the primary ide as master.
cdrw as master on secondary ide
dvd as slave on secondary ide.
That is exactly how the drives are set up and I have checked the jumpers are in the correct position
i read the above as "DVD Rom as secondary master and the CDRW as secondary slave"
shouldnt really matter that much though just might be faster if cdrw is master.
have you tried set up defaults in the bios and setting it to auto detect?
Are you using an 80 wire cable on the secondary IDE channel - if so try changing it to a standard 40 wire cable.
Thanks to you all for your suggestions as I said I think the bios is faulty as I cannot access it even though it says press F2 to enter it plus the monitor keeps blacking out as well so I am going to take the mobo back and get it exchanged once again thanks to all for your help
