I am rebuliding my tower pc, with new motherboard- ASUS Striker Extreme (chipset- Nvida nForce 680i SLI), intel processor-core 2 quad and RAM-4GB. What power supply unit do i need? My current PSU(Model 400U) gives a MAX DC output of 400W, will this do.

you need to think about what other hardware will draw power from the PSU, such as grahpics card, usb devices, etc. 400w is pretty average but if the purse will stretch to 450 or 500w you should not get into a power drain...

it will be ok unless you are putting top graphics card in. then you need a decent psu, a 600w with 80% plus efficincy to save on the increasing price of electricity.
