Programs not in "add or remove" list

I'm trying to remove programs from my PC but they don't show in the list of programs. In fact, there are only 4 programs listed.
How can I fill the list properly? Is there a good uninstall program that I could use instead?

Have you checked to see if there's an uninstall option under Start, All Programmes, etc

If you have a XP CD put it in the Drive and from Run type

SFC /SCANNOW for it to check for corrupt and missing files

Yes jon, the program list was the first place I looked.
Did SFC /SCANNOW but no change.

STOP PRESS:- I just found them all BUT only if I sort by "date last used". by "name" gets 4, "size" looses then all, "frequency of use" gets only 2.

Does that give anyone a clue?

Download, install and run CCleaner. click here. Click on Tools and you can remove programs from there.
From Googling the problem it seems that it isn't that uncommon and could be linked to SP2. click here

Should have addedv be careful only to use it on programs you no longer need. Also it may not list the programs you want to remove if they were not installed by windows.
