probs with norton internet security 2008

I have run XP perfectly until now using norton 2005 Internet security. My recent subscription to symantec wouldnt go online by C/card so i bought a new retail pack of Norton 2008 and installed it.
Now my IE 6.0 opens with 5 toolbars from yahoo etc etc and the whole system takes ages to do the simplest of things. My download speed from my ISP is unaffected tho?
Can anyone share any solutions I may try please?..
I feel like a right plonker!

Did you remove the old version first ?

If not, removal all traces of Norton using the removal tool click here

This includes your new version too.

You may need to check for redundant registry entries also,so run ccleaner click here

Then check with a manual search and remove anything related to Norton or Symantec.

Then reload your retail pack.

If no joy post back.

Yahoo was probably a bundled piece of software and can be removed from add and remove programs.

Thank you skidzy, I had considered doing that, as when I installed it I chose an option to keep the files from 2005 (i think lol).....
so....yes i'll get on with it thanks a lot for prompt response sir.
